Wright-Phillips made his England debut as a
substitute against Ukraine on 18 August 2004 and scored an impressive goal late
in the second
half. A real bundle of energy, he was frequently called upon
throughout England's World Cup qualifying campaign. However, after a decline in
form, especially a poor performance away to Northern Ireland, and a lack of
games following his move to Chelsea he missed out on a place in the 2006
